Optical Amplifiers

GAO’s optical amplifiers are devices used in optical communication systems to boost the power and quality of optical signals. They operate by amplifying the optical signal without the need for converting it into an electrical signal and then back into an optical signal.

GAO’s optical amplifiers are composed of a gain medium, pump source, pump coupling system, isolators, filters, housing, and connectors.

The other common names of optical amplifiers are optical boosters, optical repeaters, light amplifiers, fiber amplifiers, signal regenerators, amplifying glasses, laser amplifiers, optical gain mediums, optical Doppler amplifiers, and erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs).

GAO Tek’s optical amplifiers have the following functions:

  • Signal Amplification: Our optical amplifiers increase the power level of optical signals without the need for electrical conversion. They directly amplify the optical signal, which allows for efficient and high-quality transmission over long distances.
  • Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs): Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) use erbium-doped optical fibers as the amplification medium. When pumped with an external light source, such as a laser, the erbium ions in the fiber become excited and can amplify incoming optical signals.
  • Amplification Bandwidth: Our optical amplifiers have a specific amplification bandwidth, typically in the range of hundreds of nanometers, which corresponds to the wavelengths of light that they can amplify effectively.
  • Inline Amplification: GAO optical amplifiers can be placed at specific intervals along the fiber optic transmission line to compensate for signal loss due to fiber attenuation. This allows for the transmission of signals over longer distances without significant degradation.
  • Wavelength Transparency: GAO’s optical amplifiers are wavelength-transparent, which means they can amplify signals at different wavelengths simultaneously. This makes them suitable for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems.
  • Regenerative Amplification: Our optical amplifiers can also perform regenerative amplification. Regeneration involves reshaping and cleaning up degraded optical signals by converting them into electrical signals, performing signal processing or regeneration, and converting them back into optical signals using optical amplifiers.
