OLT / ONT Units
GAO’s OLT (Optical Line Terminal) / ONT (Optical Network Terminal) units are networking devices used in the deployment of fiber optic networks, specifically in the context of Passive Optical Networks (PON). Our OLT units are the central devices in a fiber optic network located at the service provider’s central office or data center. It manages the distribution of data and services to subscribers, converts electrical signals into optical signals for transmission over fiber optic cables, and performs various network management functions. Our ONT units are the devices installed at the subscriber’s premises in a fiber optic network. It receives optical signals from the OLT and converts them back into electrical signals that can be used by the subscriber’s devices.
GAO’s OLT / ONT units are composed of a central processing unit (CPU), optical line interface, uplink interfaces, downlink interfaces, management interfaces, electrical interfaces, and power supply.
The other common names of OLT/ONT units are optical line terminations, optical line gateways, optical access nodes, central office terminals, fiber aggregation nodes, optical network units, fiber access terminals, optical hubs, optical network units, network termination units, optical network gateways, customer premises equipment (CPE), optical network terminations, optical termination devices, customer optical units, and fiber termination units.

GAO Tek’s OLT / ONT units have the following functions:
- Aggregation: Our OLT units aggregate and combine multiple customer connections into a single optical fiber link, optimizing the use of our network resources.
- Optical signal reception: GAO ONT units receive optical signals from the OLT units and convert them back into electrical signals usable by customer devices.
- Data distribution: It distributes data received from our OLT units to the connected customer devices, such as computers, routers, telephones, or televisions.
- Service interface provision: GAO’s ONT units offer various interfaces, such as Ethernet ports, POTS ports, RF ports, or Wi-Fi, to provide different types of services to our customers.
GAO Tek’s OLT / ONT units are rugged, versatile, and precision measurement instruments. They comply with applicable industry standards such as ITU-T G.984 (GPON), ITU-T G.988, IEEE 802.3, ITU-T G.9977 (XG-PON), ITU-T G.989 (NG-PON2), ITU-T G.9700 / G.9701 (G.fast), and Broadband Forum TR-10.
Our OLT / ONT units help our customers comply with relevant U.S. government regulations such as:
- Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Regulations
- National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Guidelines
- Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Standards
- National Electrical Code (NEC)
Our OLT / ONT units help our clients in complying with relevant Canadian government regulations such as:
- Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED)
- Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC)
- Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
- Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Our OLT / ONT units have the following applications:
- Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Networks: GAO OLT and ONT units are used in our FTTH deployments to deliver high-speed internet, voice, and video services directly to residential homes or small businesses.
- Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB) Networks: In FTTB deployments, GAO's OLT and ONT units are used to connect fiber optic lines to multi-dwelling units (MDUs) or commercial buildings, providing broadband services to multiple tenants or businesses within the building.
- Fiber-to-the-Curb (FTTC) Networks: GAO’s OLT and ONT units are utilized in FTTC deployments, where fiber optic cables are extended to a distribution point or curb near customer premises, and our ONT units are placed at the curbside to serve individual customers.
- Campus Networks: GAO Tek’s OLT and ONT units are used in campus networks, such as universities, office complexes, or industrial parks, to provide high-speed connectivity and manage data distribution to various buildings and locations within the campus.
- Triple-Play Services: GAO OLT and ONT units enable the delivery of triple-play services, including high-speed internet, voice, and video (television) services over a single fiber optic connection, offering a comprehensive solution for residential and business customers.
Our OLT / ONT units can be shipped overnight within the continental U.S. and Canada, and can be shipped globally.
