GAOTek Handheld Gigabit Ethernet tester is designed for installation and maintenance of 10 M/100 M/1000 M Ethernet networks. It combines the functions of network testing, data packet capture, traffic generation, cable testing and BER testing into one unit. It also integrates full RFC-2544 and Y.1564 tests. Featuring an ergonomic design and 5.0 inch LCD color touch screen, this Ethernet tester helps the front-line field workers to analyze the network quality and locate faults rapidly. Test results can be shown graphically and numerically.

Touch screen:

Touch-screen is quite intelligent and easy-to-use. Operators can transmit the order and achieve function control by touching the screen. Touch-screen is much more convenient compared with traditional keyboard input and mouse input. The touch screen adopts capacitive screen, and has many advantages as follows:

  • High resolution and good transparency;
  • Good intense light-resistant and short response time;
  • High stability.

LED Indicator:

This instrument has three indicators, including two status indicators and one alarm indicator. They mainly indicate the instrument work status, and if there is any alarm during testing.


Functional Keypad:

The instrument has four functional keys at the front panel, including Help Key, Main Menu Key, Back Key and Power Key/Backlight Key.

Key Name Description
1 – Help Press Help Key and go to Help menu.
2 – Main Menu Press Main Menu Key and go to main menu.
3 – Back Press Back Key and go back to previous menu.
4 – Power/Backlight Press it once to power on/off the backlight; press it longer to switch on/off the instrument.

Preparation before the operation:

  • Press Power/Backlight Key, the instrument will be buzzing with one sound and switched on, then it will start the operation system and go into the main menu.
  • Entering the main menu, the instrument initializes the configuration of the testing modules for around 10s.
  • After the initialization process completes, select the required test function and select the related test cables.
  • Connect the instrument to the tested device with related test cables, and start the test after the LED indicator shows right status.


  • When using battery for power supply, the instrument will alarm for low battery. The icon Battery Volume in right down corner will show volume grade. When the battery is low, the instrument will buzzer on, indicating the battery is low. After working for 20 to 30 minutes more, the instrument will be shut down automatically for protection. When it is low battery, the instrument needs the charger with external power supply. The battery should be charged in time when it is low battery, and continues the work after fully charged.
  • The instrument has the Auto Power Off function, to avoid starting the system under unintentional operation and exhausting the battery. Under non-testing status, if there is no operation in N minutes (N=5, 10, 30, etc.), the instrument will be shut down automatically, and users can configure the value N in the Power under System Settings menu.

Network Settings:

  • When the instrument is switched on and ready to work, it will detect the link status of the port, and all the link status and settings can be displayed in real time.
  • Click Network Settings in main menu.
  • To change any settings, click editable box in the menu and the network information can be configurable such as MAC, VLAN and IP QoS.

Performance Tests:

The Performance Tests is used to verify the network performance between two network nods, including four functions:

  • RFC-2544 Tests.
  • BER Test.
  • Jitter Test.
  • 1564 Test.

Connectivity Test:

The connectivity test includes three test items

  • Ping
  • Trace Route.
  • ARP Scan.

Monitor & Statistics:

Monitor & Statistics allows you to monitor the traffic over the network, analyze and do statistics to the frames.


The Tools includes six test items

  • Fiber Test
  • Copper Test
  • Blink Port
  • Sniff Frame
  • Loopback

PC Communication:

The instrument supports communication with PC via USB port or Ethernet port with help of TestManagerPro software installed in the PC. When choosing Ethernet port, the correct IP address is required to configure.

How to Use TestManagerPro:

  • Connect the Instrument

Connect the instrument and the PC with network cable or USB cable. Choose the corresponding communication port in PC communication menu, and select GAOTek Handheld Gigabit Ethernet Tester as the type of instrument in the TestManagerPro software, then click Connect. If the Ethernet port is selected as communication port, the IP address in the instrument should be select accordingly.

Graphic windows help you operate TestManagerPro software simply and easily.

Upload Test Records:

After successful connection between the instrument and PC, click Upload Record button in the tool bar and it will pop up a dialog box, and then click Upload button to upload the records. When there are many test records to be uploaded, it is recommended to use Ethernet port which makes it faster than USB port.
