- Power Management
This instrument can be powered by external power supply or built-in rechargeable batteries.
4.1 External Power Supply
The external power supply requires a power source of 100 V to 240 V AC at a frequency between 50 Hz to 60 Hz (nominal). And the instrument requires a nominal DC supply of 8.4 V. Plug the AC power cord into an appropriate AC wall outlet and connect the instrument with the supplied adapter cable. And the instrument can be powered by the external power supply via the supplied Charger.
4.2 Rechargeable Battery
This instrument has built-in Li-ion rechargeable battery. (7.4 V, 1200 mAh)
4.3 Power Management
The instrument has the Auto Power Save function, to avoid starting the system under unintentional operation and exhausting the battery. Under non-testing status, if there is no operation in 5 minutes, the instrument will be shut down automatically. The backlight is turned on by pressing Backlight Key, and can be turned off automatically in a pre-set time. It can be turned on or off by pressing the key. And users can configure the value or turn off the function in Others settings.
- Switch-On
5.1 Switch-on Inspection Steps
This instrument can be switched on after “Power” key has been pressed. After switch-on, the LCD will display name of instrument, and the embedded software version information. About 1 second later it beeps, the switch-on process is completed and it enters Results interface.
5.2 Setting Time & Date
At the left side of battery indication on the screen, LCD displays the current time in the format of “Hour: Minute”, with 24-hour system. Since the test result is time-stamped, it is necessary to set the right time and date before using the instrument.
Time and date can be set in “Time & Date” in the “Menu” interface, by following operational steps:
- Press the “Menu” to switch to the “Menu” interface, select “Time & Date”.
- Press “OK” to enter the setting menu, and then the date and time of the instrument can be modified.
- Press “OK” again after the setting is done, and then the instrument can work according to the new setting time.
- Communication with PC
This instrument supports communication with PC via USB interface by TestManagerPro software. And TestManagerPro can do three jobs: one is to upload the test results stored in the instrument to PC for further processing including filing, printing and analyzing, the second is to set the threshold and perform calibration via PC, and the third one is to upgrade the embedded software via PC to protect your investment.
6.1 Communication Steps
- Connect the instrument with PC via USB cable cable
- Switch on the instrument
- Run the TestManagerPro software on PC, click “Select” button to choose the tester’s type and click “Connect” button. After the successful connection, the user can set threshold, upload, view, analyze, delete, print test results in the form of report and do other operations.
6.2 Upgrading the Embedded Software
Manufacturer will launch the latest version embedded software and host software TestManagerPro on the company website for the users to download. Make sure to visit the website frequently or contact your vendor to ensure you will always get the software of the latest version.
- Safety Precautions
The following general safety precautions must be observed during all phases of operation, service, and repair of this instrument. Failure to comply with these precautions or with specific warnings elsewhere in this manual violates safety standards of design, manufacture, and intended use of the instrument. The manufacturer assumes no liability for the customers’ failure to comply with these requirements.
7.1 External Power Requirements
Please use the supplied Charger when operating with the instrument or charging the battery. The supplied Charger requires:
AC Input: 100 V ~ 240 V, 50/60 Hz, Max 0.3 5 A.
DC Output: 8.4 V, Max 1200 mA
7.2 Operation Requirements
All test interfaces are located at the upper end of the PON Power Meter. The instrument contains components sensitive to electrostatic discharge. To prevent component damage, carefully follow the handling precautions presented below.
The smallest static voltage most people can feel is about 3500 volts. It takes less than one tenth of 1 second at about 300 volts to destroy or severely damage static sensitive circuits. Often, static damage does not immediately cause a malfunction but significantly reduce the component’s life. Adhering to the following precautions will reduce the risk of static discharge damage.
Before handling the instrument, select a work area where potential static sources are minimized. Avoid working in carpeted areas and non-conductive chairs. Keep body movement to a minimum. We recommend that you use a controlled static workstation.
Handling the instrument by its cover. Avoid touching any components or edge connectors.
- Navigating the Displays

This is normal. The battery will be charged automatically when connected with AC power adapter because the power consumption in working process. The battery will be fully charged at a very short time automatically.
- The instrument shuts off.
Check if the voltage of battery is low.
Check if “Auto Power Off” in “Menu” is set to OFF or 5/10/30 mins.
- Duration of battery is getting shorter.
The usage life time of new rechargeable battery is about 500~800 cycles of charge and discharge. When you find the working duration is reduced in evidence, you should replace the rechargeable batteries. Please contact vendor when change the battery.
- Measurement error.
The connector is dirty. Please clean the connector with cotton bud dipping some alcohol.
Fail to connect the fiber, please re-connect the fiber.
Big changes in environmental temperature lead to measurement error of small signal. Please enter Menu and turn Zero again.
11. Maintenance
- Please avoid heavy vibration, crash, drop or other mechanical damage.
- Please make sure that the connector is clean before test. When performing cleaning work, please connect different parts only after they are dry.
- Please turn off the unit and cover dust proof cap after your test. 4). Please clean the optical connector regularly with cotton bud gently.
- Please use FC/SC/ST interchangeable optical connector. Please use standard FC/PC, SC/PC, ST/PC connectors, instead of other type of connector.
- Please use the same type of adapter only.
- Please gently insert/pull out the connector to avoid scratching the surface. Do not insert the bad polished surface to avoid mangling the sensor’s surface and the whole system performance.
- If the equipment will not be used for a period of time, remove the battery to keep it from leakage.
