Visual Fault Locators

GAO’s fiber visual fault locators are handheld devices used in the field of fiber optics to locate faults or breaks in optical fiber. GAO’s fiber visual fault locators are used for troubleshooting and maintenance tasks in fiber optic networks. They emit a bright visible laser light into the fiber optic cable, allowing technicians to easily locate faults by visually observing the light leakage or breakage.

GAO’s fiber visual fault locators are composed of a laser diode, power control, connector adapter, battery, switch/button, indicator lights, housing or enclosure, and output port.

The other common names for visual fault locators are fiber optic fault finders, fiber fault detectors, optical cable fault locators, visual fiber testers, visual cable break detectors, visual fiber break locators, optical fiber break detectors, visual fault detectors, light source fault locators, fiber break pinpointers, fiber fault tracers, cable break testers, visual break locators, fiber break testers, and fiber optic cable fault tracers.

GAO Tek’s visual fault locators have the following functions:

  • Fault Detection: Our fiber visual fault locators are to detect faults or breaks in optical fibers. By emitting bright and visible light into the fiber, we enable technicians to visually trace the path of the fiber and identify any faults along its length. The light can be seen escaping from the fiber wherever there is a break, bend, or discontinuity.
  • Fault Localization: GAO Tek's fiber visual fault locators help in localizing the exact location of a fault in an optical fiber. By observing the light emitted from the fiber, technicians can pinpoint the specific area where the fault exists, allowing for targeted repairs or replacement.
  • Fiber Continuity Testing: Our fiber visual fault locators are also used to test the continuity of optical fibers. They can verify if a fiber is intact and carrying light from end to end without any interruptions. This is particularly useful during installation or troubleshooting to ensure proper fiber connectivity.
  • Macroscopic Fault Identification: Our fiber visual fault locators are effective in identifying macroscopic faults in fiber optic cables. They can detect breaks, bends, or severe signal loss caused by damaged connectors, fiber fractures, or other physical issues. This allows technicians to quickly assess the health and integrity of the fiber optic network.
  • Visual Inspection: GAO Tek's fiber visual fault locators facilitate visual inspection of fiber optic cables, connectors, and splices. Technicians can visually examine the quality of connections, identify loose or faulty connectors, and ensure proper alignment and cleanliness.

GAO Tek’s fiber visual fault locators are rugged, versatile, and precision measurement instruments. They comply with applicable industry standards such as IEC 60825-1, IEC 61280-4-1, TIA-455, ANSI/TIA-568, ISO/IEC 14763-3, and telcordia GR-326-CORE.

Our fiber visual fault locators help our customers comply with relevant U.S. government regulations such as:

  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
  • Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
  • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
  • Department of Transportation (DOT)

Our fiber visual fault locators help our clients in complying with relevant Canadian government regulations such as:

  • Health Canada Regulations
  • Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Standards
  • Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) Regulations
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDG)

Our fiber visual fault locators have the following applications:

  • Fiber Optic Cable Installation: Our fiber visual fault locators are used during the installation process to verify the continuity and integrity of fiber optic cables.
  • Fiber Optic Network Maintenance: GAO Tek's fiber visual fault locators are used in network maintenance activities. They can be used to quickly locate and identify faults, such as breaks, bends, or faulty connectors, in fiber optic cables. This helps us in efficient troubleshooting and reduces downtime during maintenance operations.
  • Fiber Optic Link Identification: Our fiber visual fault locators are used to identify specific fibers within a bundle or a patch panel. By emitting a visible light into the fiber, technicians can visually trace the path of the light and identify the corresponding fiber at the other end. This is particularly useful when dealing with a large number of fibers in complex fiber optic networks.
  • Fault Detection and Localization: Our fiber visual fault locators are effective tools for detecting and locating faults in fiber optic systems. By emitting a bright and visible light, our fiber visual fault locators enable technicians to visually identify breaks, discontinuities, or other issues in the fiber.
  • Fiber Optic Connector Verification: GAO’s fiber visual fault locators are used to inspect and verify the quality of fiber optic connectors. Technicians can use our fiber visual fault locators to visually inspect connectors for cleanliness, alignment, and proper mating. The visible light emitted by our fiber visual fault locators helps in identifying any defects or irregularities in the connectors.

Our fiber visual fault locators can be shipped overnight within the continental U.S. and Canada, and can be shipped globally.
