PON Transceivers
GAO’s PON transceivers are optical modules used in fiber optic networks that implement a passive optical network architecture. PON technology is used for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) deployments, providing high-speed broadband services to homes, businesses, and other subscribers. GAO’s PON transceivers are designed to interface with the PON system and enable bidirectional communication between the central office (OLT, optical line terminal) and multiple subscribers (ONT, optical network terminal). They typically operate at different wavelengths to separate upstream and downstream traffic.
GAO’s PON transceivers are composed of an optoelectronic transmitter, optoelectronic receiver, laser driver and trans-impedance amplifier (TIA), digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) interface, connector interface, and control and identification interface.
The other common names for PON transceivers are optical network transceivers, passive optical network transceivers, fiber optic transceivers, GPON transceivers, EPON transceivers, FTTH transceivers, OLT transceivers, ONT transceivers, optical line terminal transceivers, and optical network terminal transceivers.

GAO Tek’s PON transceivers have the following functions:
- Optical Signal Transmission: GAO’s PON transceivers convert electrical signals into optical signals for transmission over fiber optic cables. They utilize laser diodes or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to generate optical signals carrying data.
- Signal Reception:Â Our PON transceivers receive optical signals from the PON network and convert them back into electrical signals that can be processed by network equipment or end-user devices.
- Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM): GAO’s PON transceivers support WDM technology, which allows multiple wavelengths or channels to be transmitted and received over a single fiber. This enables the sharing of the same physical infrastructure for different services, such as data and video.
- Upstream and Downstream Data Transmission: Our PON transceivers facilitate bidirectional data transmission between the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and the Optical Network Unit (ONU) or Optical Network Terminal (ONT) in PON networks. They handle both upstream (from ONU/ONT to OLT) and downstream (from OLT to ONU/ONT) data traffic.
- Optical Power Monitoring:Â Our PON transceivers incorporate optical power monitoring capabilities. They can measure and report the received optical power levels to ensure proper signal quality and troubleshoot any issues related to signal strength.
GAO Tek’s PON transceivers are rugged, versatile, and precision measurement instruments. They comply with applicable industry standards such as ITU-T G.984, IEEE 802.3ah, SFF-8472, and RoHS for their design, performance, interoperability, and environmental requirements.
Our PON transceivers help our customers comply with relevant U.S. government regulations such as:
- Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
- National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
Our PON transceivers help our clients in complying with relevant Canadian government regulations such as:
- Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) regulations
- Measurement Canada regulations
- Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) regulations
- Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations
Our PON transceivers have the following applications:
- Fiber to the Home (FTTH): Our PON transceivers are used in FTTH networks to provide high-speed internet, voice, and video services to residential users.
- Fiber to the Building (FTTB): GAO’s PON transceivers are deployed in FTTB networks to connect multiple users within a building or multi-dwelling unit to the central office or service provider.
- Fiber to the Curb (FTTC):Â Our PON transceivers are employed in FTTC networks to extend fiber connectivity to a curb or distribution point, enabling high-speed broadband services to be delivered to users over the existing copper infrastructure.
- Wireless Backhaul: GAO Tek’s PON transceivers are utilized in wireless backhaul applications to provide high-capacity and low-latency fiber optic connectivity for cellular base stations and wireless network infrastructure.
Our PON transceivers can be shipped overnight within the continental U.S. and Canada, and can be shipped globally.
