Hardness Testers

GAO Tek’s structural hardness testers are specialized instruments used to measure the hardness of materials, specifically metals, and alloys. These testers apply a load to a test sample and measure the depth or size of the indentation left by the load. The hardness of the material is determined by comparing the size of the indentation to a standardized chart or scale.

GAO Tek’s structural hardness testers are composed of load cell¸ indenter, test block, test bed, optical system, control system, indenter force control system, sample stage, and hardness scale.

The other common names for hardness testers are hardness measuring devices, material hardness testers, durometers, Rockwell testers, Brinell testers, Vickers testers, shore durometers, material hardness gauges, metal hardness testers, surface hardness testers, and material testing machines.

GAO Tek’s structural hardness testers have the following functions:

  • Hardness Testing: The primary function of our structural hardness tester is to measure the hardness of a material. It does this by applying a controlled force to the material surface and measuring the resulting indentation or deformation.
  • Quality Control: Our structural hardness testers are used in quality control processes to ensure that materials meet the required hardness specifications. They can be used in a variety of industries, such as aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing.
  • Material Identification: GAO’s hardness testers can also be used to identify the type of material being tested. Different materials have different hardness levels, and a hardness tester can help determine the type of material being tested.
  • Material Selection: GAO’s structural hardness testers can aid in material selection by comparing the hardness of different materials and selecting the one that is best suited for a particular application.
  • Research and Development: GAO’s structural hardness testers can be used in research and development to determine the hardness of new materials and to evaluate the effectiveness of different processing techniques.
  • Non-destructive Testing: Our structural hardness testers can perform non-destructive testing, which means that the material being tested does not get damaged during the testing process. This is particularly useful in situations where the material cannot be damaged or destroyed.

GAO Tek’s structural hardness testers are rugged, versatile, and precision measurement instruments. They comply with applicable industry standards such as ASTM E10, ASTM E18, ASTM E384, ISO 6506, ISO 6508, and ISO 14577.

Our structural hardness testers help our customers comply with relevant U.S. government regulations such as:

  • OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration)
  • ASTM International
  • NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology)
  • ISO (International Organization for Standardization)
  • ANSI (American National Standards Institute)

Our structural hardness testers help our clients in complying with relevant Canadian government regulations such as:

  • Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB)
  • Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB)
  • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act

Our structural hardness testers have the following applications:

  • Automotive Industry: Our hardness testers are used for testing car parts such as engine components, gears, bearings, springs, etc.
  • Aerospace Industry: GAO’s hardness testers can be used for testing materials used in aircraft construction, such as aluminum, titanium, and composites.
