Optical Multiplexers
GAO’s optical multiplexers are devices used in optical communication systems to combine multiple optical signals onto a single optical fiber or separate individual signals from a single fiber. They are an integral part of modern optical networking technology. The primary purpose of optical multiplexers is to increase the capacity and efficiency of optical fiber transmission. Instead of using separate fibers for each individual signal, which would be costly and impractical, multiplexers allow multiple signals to be transmitted simultaneously over a single fiber by utilizing different wavelengths of light.
GAO’s optical multiplexers are composed of wavelength selective elements, fiber ports, couplers/splitters, isolators, and optical amplifiers.

GAO Tek’s optical multiplexers have the following functions:
- Multiplexing: GAO’s optical multiplexers are used to combine multiple optical signals onto a single optical fiber. By utilizing different wavelengths of light, multiplexers enable the transmission of multiple signals simultaneously over a shared medium, increasing the capacity and efficiency of the optical network.
- Demultiplexing: Our optical multiplexers also have the capability to separate individual signals from a single fiber. At the receiving end, another multiplexer is used to demultiplex the combined signals back into their original wavelengths, allowing for the extraction of the individual data streams.
- Increased transmission capacity: Multiplexing multiple signals onto a single fiber, our optical multiplexers significantly increase the transmission capacity of optical communication systems. This allows for the efficient utilization of the available optical fiber infrastructure.
- Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM): Our optical multiplexers enable the implementation of WDM technology, where different wavelengths of light are used to carry independent data streams. This technology allows for high-bandwidth transmission and supports the simultaneous transmission of multiple signals over a single fiber.
- Network flexibility and scalability: GAO’s optical multiplexers provide flexibility and scalability to optical networks. They allow for the addition or removal of signals without the need for additional physical fibers, reducing the complexity and cost of network expansion or reconfiguration.
GAO Tek’s optical multiplexers are rugged, versatile, and precise measurement instruments. They comply with applicable industry standards such as ITU-T G.694.x, ITU-T G.692, ITU-T G.695, Telcordia GR-253-CORE, and IEEE 802.3.
Our optical multiplexers help our customers in complying with relevant U.S. government regulations such as:

- Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)
Our optical multiplexers have the following applications:
- Telecommunications: GAO Tek’s optical multiplexers are used in telecommunications networks to increase the capacity and efficiency of optical fiber transmission. They enable the simultaneous transmission of multiple signals over a single fiber, allowing for high-bandwidth data, voice, and video communications.
- Data centers: Our optical multiplexers are used to consolidate and manage high volumes of data traffic. They enable the efficient utilization of fiber optic links, allowing multiple data streams to be transmitted over a single fiber, thereby maximizing the data center's capacity and connectivity.
- Internet Service Providers (ISPs): GAO Tek’s optical multiplexers enhance ISP’s network infrastructure and provide high-speed broadband services to customers. Multiplexers allow for the aggregation and distribution of multiple data streams, enabling ISPs to offer faster and more reliable internet connections.
- Cable television (CATV): GAO’s optical multiplexers are used in CATV systems, where they enable the transmission of multiple channels and services over a single fiber. They allow for the combination of various video, audio, and data streams, providing efficient distribution of content to subscribers.
- Fiber optic networks: Our optical multiplexers are used in fiber optic networks, such as metropolitan area networks (MANs) and long-haul networks. They help increase the capacity of these networks by combining multiple signals onto a single fiber or separating individual signals from a shared fiber.
Our optical multiplexers can be shipped overnight within the continental U.S. and Canada, and can be shipped globally.
